Opinion story

What I am going to discuss in this opinion wiring is social media. I think this is a really important topic because there are so many arguments you can make with this topic.
What I think about Social Media is that it is important and good to have. You get social and you meet new people every day who are like you and/or have the same interests as you.

I think that older people don't understand what social media is so that is why they don't like it. I think that they don't know how much fun and the cool people we meet and how that we get to meet new people and get to know them and get new friends and relate to people we never even knew before. We get to have fun with friends, show people what we are doing with each other and if we look really really good one day, then we can show off and feel confident.

I understand that a lot of not so good things happen on social media like buying, pornography, and other stuff, but we can black people who are mean and stay away from bad sites.

I think that social media is just a good thing to express who you are and show people who you really are, or make new friends. Some people don't have that many friends in person but they can keep up with old friends if they moved or have other friends that they can always hang out with on a daily basis.

I like it because i get to meet new people and it makes me laugh about what people post. They have funny things, people that you know, people that you don't know but could know them, and more. I like the funny category the best because it makes me laugh a lot and makes me happy if I'm down or not feeling well.

My parents are always telling me to be careful about social media because there are bad pool eon there. I know that is true but they freak about it too much. I don't think that they realize that we can just block people if they are bothering us or if it is a bad account.

My mom has Instagram so she can monitor what I am posting and so she can see what is new and "hip" in the world. I don't have a problem with it but she is always asking questions about what these buttons do, which i am not going got lie, can get a little annoying. But it is ok because I know she just wants to protect me and be a good mom.

My dad on the other hand, has no idea what goes on. He thinks everything is ok and that if someone makes fun you, you should just confront them and ask them about it. I agree with him because no one should tolerate getting bullied.

People should be careful with social media because it can be a very harsh thing and a lot of people chose different paths for themselves because people judge them and call them names for who they are. Everyone should accept one another because people have their own personalities and should love themselves not change because someone keeps saying mean things about them.

What: Became student of the month
When: September 9
Where: At school, announced in the library
Why: She made good grades and came to class
How: Participated in curricular activities for school

Anna Pete ,14, became Student of the Month on September 9, for James Bowie High School. 16

On September 16, 2016, Anna Pete became Student of the Month at James Bowie High School. We asked her how she thinks she became student of the month, Her reply was "Doing out of school activities, good grades, and clubs." She is currently taking all Pre-Ap classes and playing basketball for school, so time is limited for her to hang out with friends. "She had very limited time because she had basketball as well as school work," her friend Emma says, "We do clubs after school together also. So I feel that it is a lot of pressure on her." She thinks that taking all Pre-Ap classes are hard and stressful, and is nervous that she might fall behind in her classes. "It is challenging but fun. It is a lot of work and tests and fast pace, but my teachers help me to learn the skills that I need to know." Anna says. Altho being student of the month sounds fun with all the attention you get, Anna revels the truth about it, "I don't like the attention and sometimes don't listen to what people are saying to me. Also questions get annoying." Even though she doesn't like the attention, she feels that she has a bigger role at school, which can be a little frightening. "I feel that people are looking up to me more than they did."
